§ 3-14. Same—Redemption of animal; costs.

  • (a)

    Impounded animals may be retrieved by an owner or owner's representative from the pound at any time prior to its sale as public property or its humane destruction as provided in section 3-13.

    (b)

    After identification of the impounded animal, the owner of such animal shall receive a retrieval invoice from the animal control officer covering the costs of capture, custody and impoundment. Such costs shall be three dollars for capturing the animal plus, one dollar and twenty-five cents per day or portion thereof that such animal is kept to cover boarding costs.

    (c)

    Additional charges may be accrued to the impounded animal's owner, if at the discretion of the animal control officer or pound veterinarian the animal is sick or injured and requires special medical treatment.

    (d)

    Owners of impounded animals shall present the retrieval invoice, a certificate of rabies vaccination of such animal, if required by law to be vaccinated, plus the amount of money shown on the invoice to the office of the city clerk in return for a receipt with which to claim the impounded animal.
